Frequently Asked Questions.
1 ) How do I get started?
To start you need BD membership and you will need to design a floorplan, which can be downloaded from BD here. If you need help we can offer this at £24.00. Compulsory movements are explained here. Music floorplans are great as you can work around your horse or pony's strengths and showcase them to their full potential.
Next you need to ride and record your test at C in a 60x20 arena. We can make a seperate one for 20x40 at an additional £20 on the same CD - with the same tracklist - but if you qualify for regionals, you will be in a 60x40. We need the video. We will create you a playlist with a selection of tracks and then we will edit all the music seamlessly to your video(s) so the music and movements match.
Once you are happy, you can make payment. We then post out the CD mastered. We can adjust the music slightly once but that is why your initial test video must be accurate.
You will need a tracklist of your music (Record Form) submitted to BD which you can locate a template here.
The PPL Licence (pages 14-16) need to be printed and kept with your finalised Signature Dressage Music CD. All info is here.
We can complete all the Licence paperwork for you.
We will be sent PPL music stickers back from BD which need to be kept with your music device / CD. Any time you update your music, you will need an updated music licence record form and new stickers.
2) Is the music you make for me now mine?
No. Purchasing a commercial music track does not transfer copyright ownership of that music. Copyright usually remains with the relevant rights holders, which may include the artist, record label, publisher and songwriters.
For example, buying a track such as “Let Me Entertain You” by Robbie Williams allows you to listen to and use the music within the limits of the licence, but it does not mean you own the music itself. You can't sell or make copies of anything we produce. Even though you may have purchased the music originally.
Commercial music is heavily protected by copyright and licensing laws, so understanding what can and cannot legally be edited is very important. We are permitted to create a dressage music edit for CD or compilation to CD for your routine within the terms of the relevant licensing rules. However, unauthorised remixes, bootlegs or unofficial releases may not be covered by these licences and therefore cannot be used.
As both music professionals and artists ourselves, and as we are members of PRS and in receipt of royalties, we respect and support the laws that protect original creators and their work.

For this reason, BD asks clients to provide artist names and track titles exactly as they appear on the PPL Repertoire database, which can be checked here:

Using recognised recordings from the PPL repertoire helps confirm the recording is legitimate.

Using music designed and produced by us means you can be confident that your soundtrack is original, professionally created, and fully authorised for use within your routine.
Additionally as part of your packages we can and will make you bespoke music which won't be on that PPL list and we can mix and remix this for you freely. You have the option if you wish to buy the track(s) we produce so no one else can ever use it, but fundamentally a seperate music agreement would need to be written and discussed as we own all the music we produce.
It may sound complicated but it is simple. You design a floorplan, you ride a video, we choose the music with you with either commercial or bespoke music and then we edit the music all together for you for the final video. Once you have ridden it and you are happy, you get a completed CD, you send off the licence and tracklist and you will receive stickers to keep with your music. If you update this music at all or change it, you need new stickers.
3)How long does it all take?

It isn't a quick process. Music editing, video editing and uploading and sending it back and forth can be time consuming so please leave plenty of time - we suggest at least 4 weeks.
4) I'm bored of the music I want to change it?
5) Can I cancel my order if my circumstances change?
Yes. By law, you have 14 days to cancel your order for any reason and receive a full refund.

A £10.00 consultation and administration fee may be retained where consultation services have already been provided within this period.

We also offer an extended goodwill cancellation period of 30 days from the date of purchase, provided we have not yet started any editing or production work on your order.

Production work includes playlists, music selection, music arrangement, soundtrack editing, and video editing. We will always confirm your production start date and timeline in advance.

If we begin work within the 14-day cooling-off period, we will request your explicit consent before doing so. You will be informed in writing that starting work within this period may affect your statutory cancellation rights for any services already provided.

Full final payment is not required until you are happy with the final arrangement. Where work has begun within the cooling-off period, a proportion of payment may become non-refundable to reflect work already completed.
Preview versions of your music may be supplied with Signature Dressage Music watermarks until final payment has been received.
